Mystic Schooners News Release

NORTH ADAMS - The Mystic Schooners made their first trip North this season and came away with a 4-2 victory in twelve innings at Joe Wolfe Field against the North Adams SteepleCats.

The game moved very quickly through the first nine innings as both teams' pitchers looked stellar. North Adams put the first two runs on the board in the fifth inning. With two outs, Nick Riotto tripled down the right field line to bring in Noah Vaughan. Then Dustin Shirley blooped one into center to bring in Vaughan to make the score 2-0 at the end of five innings.

The Schooners got their first run in the very next inning. CJ Moore led off the sixth with a walk and advanced to second when Nick Mascelli singled to shallow left field. With CJ breaking for third, the pitch to Brett Bond got away from the catcher and CJ turned on the jets to score from second and cut the lead in half.

With the score still 2-1 with North Adams in the lead in the eighth the Schooners were able to tie the game. Ryan Ramiz led off the inning with a double and stole third with nobody out. With one out Toby Handley stepped up to the plate and hit a sharp grounder up the middle to score Ramiz and tie the game at two at the end of eight innings.

In the bottom of the ninth with the score tied the SteepleCats loaded the bases and a hard line drive to center field ended the inning and sent the game into extras.

North Adams had multiple chances to walk it off against the Schooners. They left five runners on base in the three extra innings.

The Schooners took advantage in the top of the twelfth. With Nick Mascelli and Brett Bond on base Rich Slenker lined a two RBI triple down the right field line to give the Schooners a 4-2 lead and the win.

With the win the Schooners improve to 10-8 on the season. Just 1.5 games back of the first place Ocean State Waves in the Southern Division.

The Schooners play Friday night against those same Waves at Old Mountain Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30.
