Mystic Schooners News Release

GROTON - For the second year, the Schooners advanced to the Championship series of the NECBL playoffs. They put themselves in great position to take home the Fay Vincent Sr. Cup as they defeated the Mainers in game one 3-1.

Nick Mascelli lead off the game for the Schooners with a solo home run to left field to give Mystic an early 1-0 lead.

Sanford would get on board with a solo homer of their own by Tristan Chari, his first of the year to right field.

Starting pitcher John Signore would get into some trouble during the middle innings, but was able to get out of every jam. In the fourth, he allowed back-to-back singles to start off the inning but then struck out the next three batters to get out of the jam. Signore would pitch six innings giving up one run on five hits while striking out nine.

Both teams would leave runners in scoring position throughout the game as both starting pitchers were able to get key outs while men were on base. Mystic would leave eight runners on base and Sanford would leave nine runners on base.

The Schooners would take the lead in the seventh inning, when Nick Mascelli singled to center field that scored Brett Bond from second base. They would add an insurance run in the eighth inning off Brett Bond's second double of the night, Aaron Hill would come around to score from second base.

Carson Teel would get the win, he relieved Signore in the sixth inning with one out. Teel would record seven outs in a row to keep the Mainers at bay while the Schooners took the lead.

The Schooners need one more victory to claim the Fay Vincent Sr. Cup. They play game two tomorrow at Goodall Park in Sanford. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM. â=80- You are receiving this email because you subscribed to this feed at https://blogtrottr.com
