Saturday Is Awards Night

Brandon, MB. - The Brandon Wheat Kings have a special night planned for Saturday as they close out the 2011-12 Western Hockey League regular season schedule with the back half of a home and home weekend series with the visiting Regina Pats.

Fans attending Saturday's regular season finale are being encouraged to come early as the hockey club will present it's annual Awards Presentations, to be held before, during and immediately following this game.

In addition to handing out the hardware, the Wheat Kings will use this game to recognize the hockey club's three graduating 20-year olds - defenceman Brodie Melnychuk, center Paul Ciarelli and left-winger Darian Dziurzynski.

In addition to the awards and the presentation to Brandon's graduating players, the hockey club will present its 2011-12 Highlight Video at the conclusion of the hardware distribution.

The Wheat Kings enter the weekend series with the Pats with a record of 37-28-1-4 and sit in the eighth and final playoff spot in the WHL's Eastern Conference. They currently trail Saskatoon and Kootenay by two points and the fifth place Pats by three with two games remaining.

Due to the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, the Wheat Kings will play their first two playoff home games at Winnipeg's MTS Centre. Dates, game times and ticket sales information will be determined this weekend.
