April 8, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Springfield Thunderbirds News Release
HARTFORD, Conn. - The Springfield Thunderbirds (32-34-5-2) dominated the action from start to finish in a 2-0 win over the Hartford Wolf Pack (32-33-6-3) on Sunday night at the XL Center.
The two teams could not get much clicking in the opening period, despite a combined 25 shots on the nets. Harri Sateri had responses for 10 Hartford shots in the opening period, including one Wolf Pack power play.
At the other end, Alex Georgiev was equally strong for the Wolf Pack, stopping all 15 Thunderbirds shots in the first period, which included two power plays without success.
?Springfield pushed the throttle offensively in the second period to the tune of 21 shots on goal for the period. They finally squeezed two pucks past Georgiev in short order beginning at the 8:36 mark. Curtis Valk and Dryden Hunt teamed up to get the puck toward the goal, where a rebound came arching down to the ice. Joel Lowry got a shot off and then tipped it over the goal line for his third tally in eight games to make it 1-0.
On the very next shift, Anthony Greco got loose in the offensive zone and picked up a juicy rebound to the right of Georgiev before backhanding home his 29th goal of the year at 8:52 to make it 2-0.
The Thunderbirds' offense would end the night with 48 shots on a busy Georgiev, who stopped 46 but got no help from his forwards. Sateri's relatively calm night finished with 26 stops in the shutout win. In his last four starts, Sateri is 4-0-0 with a .982 save percentage, while stopping 111 of 113 shots.
The Thunderbirds return home on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 for Fan Appreciation Weekend, featuring the final 3-2-1 Friday and MGM Springfield Pregame Concert Series to start the weekend. Then on Saturday, the fun begins at Court Square from 4-6 p.m. for a Block Party, presented by Community Bank. Then inside, there will be 2,500 Boomer Bobbleheads as a special giveaway, compliments of Stop & Shop.
