Santa Cruz Warriors Acquire 2018 First-Round Pick In Trade With South Bay

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors announced today that the team has completed a trade to acquire the South Bay Lakers' original first-round selection in the 2018 NBA G League Draft. In exchange, the team will send forward James Southerland and the returning player rights for forward Scott Wood to South Bay.

"James Southerland was a hard-working, model teammate in his two seasons with the Santa Cruz Warriors organization," said General Manager Kent Lacob. "I wish James the best of luck in his return to the Lakers organization."

In 69 games with the Santa Cruz Warriors (39 starts), Southerland averaged 12.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 27.1 minutes. The Bayside, New York native began his NBA G League career with the Lakers organization during the 2013-14 season, contributing 14.7 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 28.6 minutes across 42 games with the Los Angeles D-Fenders.

Wood, currently with Pinar Karsiyaka in Germany's Bundesliga, has averaged 9.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 28.0 minutes this season with shooting averages of .491/.466/.733 across 34 games (30 starts). In 2016-17, the North Carolina State graduate played all 50 games (49 starts) for the Santa Cruz Warriors, tallying 14.0 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists with .446/.430/.943 splits.
