Santa Cruz Splits Weekend Series in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK. - The defending NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (15-25) defeated the Oklahoma City Blue (14-25) 111-98 on Saturday at Cox Convention Center.

Verdell Jones III paced the Warriors with 25 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. Darington Hobson scored 21 points, while Aaron Craft added 14 points in the victory over Oklahoma City.

Dwight Buycks led the Blue with 27 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Oklahoma City Thunder assignee Josh Huestis notched 15 points, while Talib Zanna recorded a double-double (10pt, 12reb).

After a slow start for the Warriors that saw Oklahoma City quickly advance to a seven-point lead, Santa Cruz would hit back-to-back three-pointers to take their first lead of the game at the 1:24 mark in the opening quarter. The two teams would stay within striking distance of one another in the second quarter, with the Blue carrying a four-point lead into the locker room.

The Warriors went on a 9-3 run to start the third period to take the 55-53 lead behind a three-pointer from Ronnie Brewer. The tightly-contested frame would see 11 lead changes and 5 ties, with the Warriors holding the one-point edge heading into the final frame.

The Warriors would hold strong for the final period enjoying a 10-0 surge coming out of the first timeout of the fourth quarter. Santa Cruz would never relinquish their lead, cruising to victory and splitting the weekend series 1-1 with the Blue.

The Santa Cruz Warriors will return home and host the Los Angeles D-Fenders on March 12 at 7 p.m. at Kaiser Permanente Arena. Fans can watch the game on the NBA D-League's YouTube channel, via www.santacruzbasketball.com.
