San Jose Earthquakes Name Jed Mettee Director Of Broadcasting And Communications

San Jose, Calif.- The San Jose Earthquakes announced today the hiring of Jed Mettee as the Director of Broadcasting and Communications. Mettee returns to the Quakes after spending five seasons with the team from 2001-05. He will oversee broadcasting, media relations and community relations for the expansion club.

In his first stint with the club, Mettee served as the Director of Media Relations and Broadcasting. With the two-time MLS Cup Champion Earthquakes, Mettee oversaw media relations, public relations and broadcasting, while also managing the team's official website and publications. In 2004, Mettee also negotiated radio broadcast agreements in English and Spanish for the first time since 1999 and in 2005 the Quakes broadcast two matches on Spanish-language television for the first time in team history.

Mettee comes to the Earthquakes after two years with Santa Clara University, where he served as the Director of Media Relations. With the Broncos, his responsibilities included overseeing the athletic department's public and media relations efforts for the university's 19 varsity sports, while also managing santaclarabroncos.com and the radio broadcast agreements.

Prior to joining the Earthquakes in 2001, Mettee served as Director of Media Relations for Massachusetts Professional Soccer (MPS), an organization that owned and operated the Boston Bulldogs (D3 Pro League), the Boston Renegades (W-1 League), and the Cape Cod Crusaders (Premier Development League).

In 2000, he worked as the media relations assistant for the New England Revolution of MLS, for whom he wrote game day publications, coordinated media interview requests, and assisted with the production of the team's internet radio shows. In June of 2000, Mettee served as Press Officer of the Foxboro venue for the 2000 Women's Gold Cup.

After graduating from Bowdoin College (Maine),Mettee traveled to Madrid, Spain, where he worked for C.F. Rayo Majadahonda, an affiliate of Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid. As an assistant to the general manager, he coordinated scheduling, managed a 75-team men's league, and assisted in the club's public relations efforts. He also coached two under 14 boys' teams in the club's youth system.

The San Jose Earthquakes are a Major League Soccer expansion team and will begin playing in April of 2008.
