San Diego Sockers News Release

SAN DIEGO - The Sockers meet longtime rivals Tacoma on Friday, January 12, 7:35 p.m. at Valley View Casino for the third matchup of the season. San Diego leads the series 2-0 by posting an 8-3 win at home and a 4-3 victory in the northwest.

The Stars, (4-6) are playing back-to-back games, as they will play in Ontario on Thursday before coming to San Diego. Tacoma is off to an unusually slow start, but have the talent to be dangerous and in playoff contention by the end of the season. The Stars have a balanced offense featuring five players, Joey Gjertsen, Nick Perera, Philip Lund, Chase Hanson and Raphael Cox, with either nine or eight points. Goalkeeping is not a problem for Tacoma, as they have the 2016 MASL Goalkeeper of the Year Danny Waltman.

San Diego is undefeated and coming off a three-game sweep of Turlock. The schedule now becomes more difficult, as the competition gets tougher and the team will play four matches in the next nine days. The ageless captain Kraig Chiles led the team in scoring with 24 points, while the team is backstopped by the best goalkeeper duo in the MASL of Boris Pardo (2.75 GAA) and Chris Toth (3.00 GAA).

It will be Military Appreciation Night on Friday. All military personnel receives discounted tickets for all levels and 15% off at the Sockers Store on the concourse inside Valley View Casino Center. The first 2,000 supporters will receive a free Cal Coast Credit Union Sockers Camo Hat. It will also be the first $2 Bud Light Night of the season. Parking is always free ($15 value), courtesy of the team. Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
