San Diego Gulls 8 vs. Tucson Roadrunners 3

The Gulls tied a club record with eight goals in a 8-3 victory over the Tucson Roadrunners tonight at Valley View Casino Center. The eight goals tied the mark set twice previously, with the last occurring in an 8-2 victory over the Roadrunners on March 31 at Tucson. The Gulls also scored eight goals on Jan 25 at Tucson (8-1 win). San Diego set a season high with four power play goals, and now lead the league with 22 power play tallies (22-for-82), with the 26.8% leading the AHL. San Diego has scored a goal on the man advantage in 13 of its 14 games this season. The Gulls will conclude the back-to-back matchup, and a season-long five-game homestand, tomorrow night against Tucson as the Gulls host Star Wars Night.

Spencer Abbott tied a franchise record with four points (2-2=4), adding his third and fourth goals of the season, and his ninth and 10th assists (4-10=14). Abbott's four points tied Brandon Montour and Andy Welinski for the club record for points in a game, with Welinski's 3-1=4 points the most recent on March 31 at Tucson. The four points also tied a career high for Abbott, matching a four-point effort on April 7, 2015 at Milwaukee (with Rockford). The four points extended his point streak to three games (2-4=6) dating back to Nov. 4, and tied a season high set from Oct. 25-28 (0-4=4). Abbott has earned 7-21=28 points in 26 career games with San Diego.

Mitch Hults set a career high with his first three-point game (1-2=3) for his second multi-point game of the season and third of his career. Hults scored the game's first goal at 5:15 of the first period. Hults also added a career high +3 rating.

Defenseman Andy Welinski recorded his fifth power play goal of the season and added two power play assist for his third multi-point game of the season (1-2=3). Welinski co- leads AHL defensemen in power play goals(5), and co-leads the AHL with 12 points on the man advantage (5-7=12).

Center Eric Fehr scored his first goal and point of the season, and his first goal for San Diego. Fehr was recently loaned to San Diego by the Toronto Maple Leafs after going scoreless in four games with the National Hockey League club this season.

Mike Liambas tallied his first multi-point game of the season (1-1=2) and first as a Gull. The multi-point effort marked the first for Liambas since he scored two goals (2-0=2) on Nov. 12, 2014 at Iowa (with Milwaukee).

Sam Carrick earned his first multi-point game of the seasons with two assists (0-2=2).

Kyle Thomas recorded his first goal for San Diego and second career AHL goal.

Kevin Boyle stopped 31-of-34 shots to earn his fourth win of the season. In four career games against Tucson, Boyle has posted a 4-0-0 record with a 2.75 goals-against average and .925 save percentage.
