San Antonio FC News Release

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 29, 2016) - San Antonio FC has signed defender Cyprian Hedrick for the 2017 USL season pending USL and federation approval, the club announced today. Per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

An ever-present for the Energy last season, Hedrick started and played 90 minutes in 29 of the club's 30 USL regular season matches and ranked seventh in the USL in total minutes played (2,610). The centerback helped lead OKC to the third-most clean sheets in the league (13) while only allowing 27 goals, which ranked as the ninth least in the USL and fourth least in the Western Conference. Hedrick also appeared in both OKC playoff matches last season, tallying 179 minutes played.

2016 marked Hedrick's third year with OKC Energy FC after he joined the club in 2014. Over the course of his three seasons there, the 27-year-old appeared in 78 of the club's 86 regular season matches, tallying 5,737 minutes played and helping the club record 33 shutouts.

"We are excited to have Cyprian join us for 2017," said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. "He's a player that we have watched this past season with OKC, and that I have watched in seasons before in Arizona, with Sporting KC and even when he was at Coastal Carolina. He's always impressed me with his approach to the game and he is a good defender who is going to add experience to our back line."

Originally drafted by Sporting Kansas City (MLS) in the second round (30th overall) of the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, Hedrick made three appearances for Sporting's reserve side before his season ended prematurely due to injury. Following his stint in Major League Soccer, Hedrick joined the now-defunct USL club Phoenix FC where he started 24 of the club's 26 matches, playing in 2,160 total minutes.

Hedrick attended San Jacinto College in 2008 before transferring to Coastal Carolina University where he played collegiate soccer for three seasons from 2009-11. Following his senior season with the Chanticleers, Hedrick was named the Big South Defensive Player of the Year after helping his team record seven total shutouts. The centerback was also selected to the 2011 All-South Atlantic Team and was named First Team All-Big South, while also earning a place on the 2011 NSCAA Men's Collegiate Scholar All-American first team.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue my career with an organization of this caliber," said Hedrick. "My family and I are excited to become a part of the San Antonio community. I'm looking forward to growing as a player on and off the field while striving to bring championships to the fans in San Antonio."

Originally from Cameroon, Hedrick moved to Texas with his family as a child, growing up in Friendswood just outside of Houston. While in college, he also played PDL soccer with the Fresno Fuego, making 36 appearances and scoring six goals over three seasons from 2009-11.

San Antonio FC is currently prepping for its second season in the USL, which is scheduled to kick off in the spring. Fans interested in season tickets can contact the SAFC sales office at 210-444-5MLS or visit SanAntonioFC.com
