San Antonio FC News Release

SAN ANTONIO, TX - San Antonio FC has added Jamaican international midfielder Omar Gordon on loan from Montego Bay United for the 2018 USL season, the club announced today. The deal is pending league and federation approval and per club policy, terms of the loan were not disclosed.

After joining the club mid-season in August, Gordon made 11 regular season appearances (10 starts) in 2017, playing 907 minutes. The midfielder added one goal and two assists along with 23 shots, which ranked fourth on the club despite his inclusion on the roster for just two months. In two playoff matches last season, Gordon made two starts, played 197 minutes and collected one assist.

"Omar joined us midseason last year and showed some great promise," said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. "His effort and professionalism were very good and we expect him to continue growing with us this year and contribute even more for San Antonio FC in 2018."

The 26-year-old was a key member of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup squad with Jamaica, which impressively reached the final of the tournament against the United States. Gordon started and played 90 minutes in that match in front of 63,000 fans at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif as the Jamaicans narrowly lost 1-0 to the U.S. Gordon has appeared 10 times at the full international level for Jamaica overall.

Gordon has spent the last six seasons with Montego Bay in his home country since 2011, while also spending time on loan to NASL club Indy Eleven during the 2016 season. The winger helped Montego Bay win the 2013-14 RSPL championship and also appeared in two CONCACAF Champions League matches with the club.

"It's a great feeling to come back to SAFC," said Gordon. "I'm very happy to be back with the team and play a full season in San Antonio. I hope to have a great year and I'm very excited to be in San Antonio again."

While with Indy Eleven in 2016, Gordon played in 23 matches, starting 16 and playing in 1,467 total minutes. Gordon scored two goals and collected an assist while leading Indy to an NASL Spring Season Championship and place in the 2016 NASL Championship game where they lost on penalties to the New York Cosmos.
