Sample Named Pitcher of the Week

July 19, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (July 19, 2010) - Dusty Odenbach's Pitcher of the Week honor earlier this month was the Bees first in two years. Today, Tyler Sample made it two Bees in three weeks.

Sample was named the Midwest League's Pitcher of the Week for the week of July 12 to 18. Amazingly enough, Sample made only one start during that time. The righty held Dayton to one hit over seven scoreless innings on Saturday night in a 13-5 win. The effort lowered his opponents' batting average to .201, currently the lowest mark in the Midwest League.

Sample, one of the Bees' three representatives at June's Midwest League All-Star Game, has a 3.65 ERA in a team-high 18 starts with 85 strikeouts in 91.1 innings.

The Bees return to Community Field on July 28 for a three-game series with the Beloit Snappers, starting with Thirsty Thursday presented by the Mark Warth Agency. Enjoy specials on beer and Pepsi products from the time the gates open at 5:30 for the 6:30 contest.
