Salt Lake's Late Rally Comes up Short

Salt Lake Bees News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The Memphis Redbirds ended the Bees nine-game home winning streak tonight by a score of 9 to 7. Redbirds prospect David Washington hit two home runs driving in four RBIs to lead the Redbirds. Memphis got on the board first in the top of the second inning on Washington's two-run blast. After adding an additional three in the third, Salt Lake responded with two of their own behind a double by Jefry Marte and a single off the bat of Kyle Kubitza. The Bees rallied in the ninth, bringing home four. With the bases loaded and two out, catcher Juan Graterol skied a deep fly ball to left field, but into the grasp of Redbirds left fielder Charlie Tilson to end the comeback attempt.

"That (ninth inning rally) was clutch," Manager Keith Johnson said. "For them not to give away at-bats right there and just scrape, scratch and claw and to get the winning run on base was a tribute to the guys and the way they've been going about their business all year."

With the loss tonight, the Bees fall to a record of 25-19 overall and 18-8 at home. Relief pitcher Geoff Broussard made his triple-A debut allowing two runs on two hits with a walk. Broussard appeared in 15 games for Double-A Arkansas before joining the Salt Lake roster picking up three saves in just four chances. The Bees will look to take the series tomorrow afternoon at 12:05 pm with Kyle Kendrick (2-1, 4.54) on the mound. All Bees games - home and away - are broadcast on The Zone Sports Network (1280 AM) with Steve Klauke providing the play-by-play. Tickets can be purchased online at www.slbees.com, the Smith's Ballpark box office, Smith's Tix outlets. Group outings, picnics or suites can be purchased by calling the Bees group sales office at 801-325-BEES (2337).
