Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Anchorage, AK - The Victoria Salmon Kings and Alaska Aces met in the finale of a four-game set that pitted the two teams atop the standings in the National Conference. Victoria started Todd Ford in net while Alaska countered with J.P. Lamoureaux.
The Salmon Kings played a disciplined road period by taking offensive opportunities when available, but playing smart defensively allowing Ford clear lines of sight on shots and clearing rebounds. The result was a scoreless first period of play.
The Salmon kings came out with a real offensive push in the second period firing the first eight shots of the period on Lamoureux, but were unable to find the back of the net. The Aces tallied their first shot on net at the 7:09 mark of the second period and it would open the flood gates. Derek Martin blasted a puck from the left point that Colin Hemingway would tip through the legs of Ford. Then 4:45 later Lance Galbraith would tip an Erik Fabian cross-crease pass into the back of the net for the 2-0 Aces lead. Alaska would make it 3-0 moments later when Galbraith would find a Ford rebound of a Nick Tuzzolino shot and slip it into the net. Scott Burt would round out the scoring for the period when he fired a laser beam from the slot past the Kings' keeper. The Aces would score four goals on nine shots in the second period. The score was 4-0 through 40 minutes.
The Galbraith potted his third goal of the game in the first few minutes of the third period. Chris St. Jacques and Tim Wedderburn would add goals for the Salmon Kings, but that was as close as Victoria would come. Aces 5 Salmon Kings 2.
Victoria finished 0/1=% on the power play, while Alaska finished 0/2%. The Salmon Kings out shot the Aces 37-27.
The Salmon Kings now head to California where they will play their next four games. Ontario will be the Kings first stop on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. The Salmon Kings return to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre on Wednesday, March 11th to open a four-game set against the Ontario Reign.
