Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, are proud to announce that Strength and Conditioning Coach Jeff Compton was involved with Hockey Canada's World Junior Development Camp last week.
Compton along with Canada's best under-20 junior hockey players were in St. John's, Newfoundland last week. The long time Victoria resident is part of the Nike SPARQ Team that was testing the players as they competed for a roster spot to represent Canada at the World Junior Championships being held in Buffalo, NY this winter.
"This was a wonderful opportunity to work with Hockey Canada and Nike," Compton said. "It gave me the chance to work with some of the nation's best players and to represent the island along with Tyson (Barrie) and Neil (Manning)."
The Nike SPARQ system is a dynamic off-ice training system influenced by the best coaches and trainers in the game today. The ultimate goal of the Nike SPARQ Training system is creating explosive movement on and off the ice.
Compton has been a part of the Nike SPARQ team for the last year and a half, and is entering his third season as a member of the Salmon Kings' player development department.
British Columbia was well represented at the camp by Victorians Compton and Barrie as well as Nanaimo native Manning. Other British Columbians that attended were Stefan Elliott (North Vancouver), Brendan Gallagher (Delta), Curtis Hamilton (Kelowna), Ryan Howse (Prince George) and Ryan Johansen (Port Moody).
