Salmon Kings And Heat Swap Goaltenders

Stockton, CA - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that goaltender David Shantz has been recalled by the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League (AHL), while goaltender Leland Irving has been re-assigned by the Calgary Flames to Victoria.

Irving joins the Salmon Kings after participating in 30 games this season with the Heat where he has registered an 11-15-2 record to go along with a 2.68 goals against average, a 0.909 save percentage and one shutout.

The Swan Hills, Alberta native was a first-round draft pick of the Calgary Flames (2006, 26th overall) and has spent his entire professional career with the Flames' AHL farm team (Abbotsford and Quad City). In 77 career professional games Irving has a record of 35-33-4 in addition to a.910 save percentage, a 2.40 goals against average and two shutouts.

Shantz, under contract to Abbotsford, has appeared in 28games for the Salmon Kings this season posting a record of 18-5-4 while accumulating a 2.88 goals against average, a 0.910 save percentage, and two shutouts. He has also participated in five games this year in Abbotsford going 2-2-0 along with a 0.869 save percentage, a 3.70 goals against average and one shutout.

The native of Burlington, Ontario is a two-time winner of the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week this season (December 14th-20th and December 28th - January 3rd) and started in net for the National Conference in the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game in Ontario, CA last week.

The Salmon Kings and Thunder continue their three-game set with contests on Friday and Saturday. Victoria returns home to the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre next week to host the Utah Grizzlies in a three-game set with matches on Wednesday, February 3rd, Friday, February 5th, and Saturday, February 6th.
