Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release
Dubuque, IA- The Dubuque Fighting Saints will take the ice tonight at 7:05 p.m. against the Green Bay Gamblers and again the following night against the Gamblers as well. Friday's game will be at Mystique Community Ice Center, while Saturday's will take place on the road. Dubuque will look to remain perfect on the preseason after two wins over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders last weekend.
Dubuque's matchup will pit them against the Gamblers, who Dubuque eliminated in the first round of last season's playoffs. The Fighting Saints got the better of the Gamblers in the regular season last year as well, posting a 3-1-2 record in six matchups. Through two postseason games of their own this season, the Gamblers are 0-1-1.
Dubuque has been led thus far by a dynamic tandem in net. Aaron Randazzo and Matthew Thiessen have combined to allow just two goals on 58 shots. Thiessen, a draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks, has been perfect. Thiessen has stopped 35 out of 35 shots in 61 minutes of action as he and Randazzo have split minutes through the first two games.
The Gamblers, much like the Saints, return players who will take on bigger roles this season. Noah Prokop leads the crop of returning Gamblers. Last season Prokop had 19 points during the regular season. Last season the Gamblers were one of the better defensive teams in the league, allowing just 170 goals which was best in the Eastern Conference.
Dubuque has received offensive contributions from multiple sources during the postseason so far. Ty and Dylan Jackson lead the team with two points apiece. The Jackson's played in the team's first game of the preseason at Cedar Rapids and got the night off when the two teams faced off in Dubuque.
The contests between Dubuque and Green Bay will mark the final preseason games for the two teams. Dubuque will then open the regular season against the Gamblers during the DICK'S Sporting Goods USHL Fall Classic on Saturday, September 29th.
