Saints in Purple, Reign Supreme 4-1 in Front of Largest Crowd in Franchise History

ST. PAUL, MN - The St. Paul Saints donned their purple uniforms on Sunday evening to honor Minnesota's own Prince. The fans came out in record number as 10,443, a new franchise record, watched Saints starter Mark Hamburger hurl a complete game in a 4-1 victory over the Kansas City T-Bones at CHS Field.

Hamburger, who threw five complete games his first time around in 2013, was perfect for 4.2 innings before giving up a two-out single to Steve Swingle in the fifth. Brandon Tierney followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Swingle tried to advance to third on a pitch in the dirt, but Aaron Gretz threw him out to end the inning.

In the sixth Hamburger gave up back-to-back singles with one out, but retired the next two hitters on pop outs to end the inning.

Hamburger retired the side in order in six of the nine innings and carried the shutout into the ninth. He got the first two T-Bones in the inning, but gave up back-to-back singles to Jake Blackwood and Anthony Gallas to put runners at the corners. A wild pitch allowed the lone run to score, but on the 121st pitch of the night, Hamburger got Tyler Massey to ground out to first to end the game and earn the complete game.

The Saints offense got Hamburger a run in the second on a solo homer by Willie Argo, his first of the season, to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth Aaron Gretz doubled to right and was sacrificed to third. Breland Almadova reached on an infield hit to put runners at first and third. Nate Hanson made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.

In the seventh Hanson struck again. Following a walk to Almadova Hanson hit a two-run homer to right, his third of the season, to make it 4-0.

Tony Thomas finished the night 1-4 with a double and extended his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Saints embark on their longest roadtrip in franchise history and it begins on Monday night at Joe Becker Stadium at 6:35 p.m. in game one of the four game series against the Joplin Blasters. The Saints send RHP Robert Coe (2-0, 2.92) to the mound against Blasters RHP Josh Hodges (1-0, 3.75). The game can be heard on Club 1220 KLBB.
