SAINT JOHN - Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Commissioner Gilles Courteau announced today the 2017 QMJHL Annual Session and Entry Draft will be hosted by the Saint John Sea Dogs.

The announcement was made during a news conference today.

The QMJHL Annual Session will be held from May 31st to June 3rd, 2017. It's the first time the annual session and entry will be held in Saint John.

"The 2017 QMJHL Annual Session and Entry Draft will be a great way for us to showcase future NHL stars and talented hockey players in Saint John," said Courteau. "We are all looking forward to bringing together our owners, governors, general managers, coaches, athletic therapists, counselors and marketing directors to the city for what I am sure will be an unforgettable week."

"We are thrilled to be hosting the 2017 QMJHL Entry Draft," said Sea Dogs President and General Manager Trevor Georgie. "The Draft is a spectacle. It is the same experience as the NHL Draft: the pageantry, the energy, and the entire hockey community congregating in one city. It will be a showcase event for Saint John and inject money into our local economy. We hope to attract more."

"We are a hockey city and we're thrilled the Saint John Sea Dogs have been chosen to host the 2017 QMJHL Annual Session and Entry Draft," said Victoria Clarke, executive director of Discover Saint John. "This event will generate $1.5M in economic impact for our city with hundreds of hockey fans, families and prospects filling our hotels, dining in our restaurants, shopping and exploring everything we have to offer. Sports tourism has the potential to bring significant business to Saint John and the Sea Dogs are a true asset for the city."

The Entry Draft itself will take place at Harbour Station on Saturday, June 3rd. The event brings in thousands of people that gravitate around the League including media and many fans.
