San Antonio Stars News Release

SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell:

(Overall thoughts on the match...)

"This team has shown resilience all year through several different situations. You can't be prouder of the players. They fought until the last second."

(On the atmosphere at Toyota Field...)

"Tonight was one of the best nights in this stadium since I've been here. When you get a result like that, you can take in the noise and the joy it brings to a lot of people, and for us as a coaching staff, to see the joy on people's faces when we've won and advanced this week (gives us) extra pride, and that's why we do the job."

San Antonio FC defender Stephen McCarthy:

(On going down a goal...)

"We try not to let negative thoughts come in when we go down a goal, no matter when it is, so everyone kept it pretty positive. It was so early that we knew we had time to get one back, so it wasn't a panic mode or anything like that."

(On the fans and atmosphere...)

"(Our fans are) amazing, I loved it. Everyone was super loud and it really helped us tonight."

San Antonio FC defender Greg Cochrane:

(On coming from behind to earn a win...)

"That was fun. I think the energy from the crowd was incredible tonight, they really lifted us when we needed it. Obviously, we're going to need it again next week. This was a good win for us, especially coming from behind. It shows that even if we go behind, we're going to battle back and push to the last minute."

(On the team's mentality as they tried to come back from a deficit...)

"We knew if we just kept going at them and taking shots, one was going to break in. When one broke, we had a pretty strong feeling that a second one would come our way, and luckily it did tonight."

San Antonio FC forward Cesar Elizondo:

(On the comeback...)

"It's a little bit of pressure, but we were trusting what we were doing. At the end of the day, we were home and I think before the first goal we were controlling the game. We had some chances, and you have to trust what you're doing. We kept having the ball, having possession and at the end two goals came in."

(On the fans at Toyota Field...)

"I think we have the best atmosphere in the USL and I'm so proud of the fans. I've been here for several years and every year and each game it gets better, and today wasn't an exception and I know that the semifinals are going to be huge here [at Toyota Field]."

(On the impact of experienced players...)

"I think we have many players with experience. We are a team who want more, and we're thinking bigger. We have the mentality of going for this cup so at the end, we knew what we needed to do to get the three points. We trust the work we've been doing all season."
