SaberCats Announce 2013 Schedule

November 13, 2012 - Arena Football League (AFL) - San Jose SaberCats News Release

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The SaberCats and the Arena Football League today announced their schedule for the 2013 season. San Jose is set to kick off their 18-game schedule on the road against new quarterback Aaron Garcia's former team, the San Antonio Talons in Week 1 at 5:30 p.m. PT. The SaberCats will match up with each of their Western division opponents twice and close the season on the road in Week 19 against the Chicago Rush.

"Looking at this schedule, we understand that each game is a challenge," Owner/Head Coach Darren Arbet said. "As we continue to prepare for the 2013 season, it provides us with a clearer look at what is ahead of us in our quest for our fourth championship. We look forward to seeing our fans at HP Pavilion for our season opener on March 29."

Following their Week 1 trip to San Antonio, San Jose returns home to open their home slate against the Orlando Predators on Friday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. PT. The SaberCats then travel to the desert to take on their bitter division rivals, and defending ArenaBowl champions, the Arizona Rattlers in Week 3. The SaberCats are 20-18 all-time (4-2 in the postseason with two ArenaBowl victories) against Arizona and though they swept the 2012 season series, the Rattlers eliminated San Jose from the playoffs in a painstakingly close 51-48 win in Phoenix on July 28.

San Jose has their bye in Week 4 and their out of division matchups in 2013 include two with the San Antonio Talons (Week 1 on the road and Week 16 in San Jose), one with the Orlando Predators (Week 2 at home), one against the New Orleans VooDoo (Week 6 on the road), th the Cleveland Gladiators in Week 7 in San Jose, a home date with the Tampa Bay Storm in Week 8, a trip to Jacksonville to battle the Sharks in Week 9, a pair with the Pittsburgh Power (at home in Week 12 and on the road in Week 17), one against the Iowa Barnstormers in Des Moines in Week 13, a matchup against the defending American Conference Champion Philadelphia Soul at home in Week 18, and a road test with the Chicago Rush to close the 2013 regular season in Week 19.
