Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - Rapid City's youth paved the way for a 4-1 Rush triumph over the rival Denver Cutthroats at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Friday night. The team was led by rookies Scott Brannon, who earned his first multi-goal effort and three-point night, as well as Jeff Lee who netted a goal and assist. The Rush and Cutthroats are back in action tomorrow at the Denver Coliseum beginning at 7:05pm and the game can be heard live on 100.3 the FOX and foxradio.com.

The Rush held a 20-3 advantage in shots through the first period, but Cutthroats goaltender Kieran Millan was strong, turning aside all shots faced and keeping the game scoreless.

The second period was much different, with both sides combining for four goals. The first came just 33 seconds in when rookie Scott Brannon rifled a wrist shot under the crossbar from the right faceoff dot. The Rush lead lasted all of thirty seconds as Chris Greene, who picked up his first goal of the season in the previous game, banked a shot in from the bottom of the right circle. Just past the midway point, the Rush regained the lead on a poweplay goal from Jarrett Konkle who earned his team-leading 15th goal of the season. With four minutes remaining, the Rush doubled their lead on Brannon's second of the night, a play set up by a perfect pass from veteran Jesse Schultz.

Despite a 20-10 lead in shots in the third period, the Rush collected the lone goal, securing a 4-1 win. Brannon and Jared Brown set up the fifth goal of the season by rookie Jeff Lee who sent a backhand shot from the low slot under the blocker of Millan.

With 50 shots on the night, the Rush eclipsed the previous mark of 43, set the previous game.

The Rush won the special teams side of things, stopping all five powerplay chances faced while going 1-for-5 on the man-advantage.

Despite his 46-save effort, a season high against Rapid City, Kieran Millan was dealt the loss while Danny Battochio improved to 4-3-1 with 34 stops.
