Rush Making the Last Stand for Canada in Playoff Action

Like the Night's Watch from Game of Thrones, the Saskatchewan Rush are the last ones standing to protect the North.

The Rush are the lone Canadian team left competing in high-stakes playoff action as they open the National Lacrosse League Champion's Cup Final tonight in Buffalo against the Bandits. The Rush will return home Saturday, June 4th for Game 2 before the passionate members of the Rush Nation.

They're friends from the country's other national sport never made it to the post-season. Not a single Canadian-based team had the good fortune to make the NHL playoffs.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the nation, the NBA's sole Canadian entry, the Toronto Raptors, were rendered extinct from the playoffs on Friday night when they lost the Eastern Conference Final to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Arenas across Canada are closed from now till the fall. No wild goal celebrations. No chants. No tailgate parties. No dancing in the streets.

Except in Saskatchewan.

The SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon is going to be jumping, no question about it. The Rush are one of Canada's great sports stories of the year. The defending NLL champs have been a huge hit with fans in their new home. Their massive welcome and response to the excitement the Rush players put forth on the turf resulted in Saskatchewan leading all Canadian teams and finishing third in the entire NLL in average attendance at well over 11,000 per game.

The Rush knocked off the Calgary Roughnecks in West Final, and in doing so, set a record attendance mark at SaskTel Centre with a crowd of 15,192 which eclipsed past highs set by Team Canada during the World Junior Hockey Championship.

So the Rush would like to welcome flag-waving, patriotic, sports-lovin' fans from across Canada to their party. It's going to be a great best-of-three series against Buffalo as both teams finished the 2016 regular season with identical 13-5 record establishing themselves as the dominant two teams in the NLL.
