Summary
Akron's Shawn Morimando allowed just two runs over five innings and improved to 8-0 on the season as the RubberDucks slipped by the Binghamton Mets, 5-2, Saturday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Trailing 2-1 in the fifth, Nellie Rodriguez lined a two-run single down the left-field line off Binghamton starter Robert Gsellman to give Akron a 3-2 lead. Gsellman (1-3) hit Taylor Murphy to lead off the inning and surrendered a double to Clint Frazier prior to Rodriguez's timely hit.
Winging It
Morimando (8-0) became the first eight-game winner in the Eastern League this season. He worked five innings and allowed just two earned runs on seven hits. He walked one and struck out four. Morimando has not allowed more than two runs in any of his nine starts this year, all of which have resulted in Akron wins. He lowered his ERA to 1.87. Scoreless relief was provided by Nick Maronde (1 IP), Louis Head (2 IP) and Perci Garner (1 IP). Garner notched his first save of the season with a perfect ninth inning, including two strikeouts.
Duck Tales
Rodriguez was 2-4, with a pair of singles, on the night. He now has a team-high 32 RBI. The RubberDucks scored a pair of insurance runs off Mets reliever Logan Taylor in the eighth to take a 5-2 lead. Todd Hankins grounded an RBI single to left and Ivan Castillo drove in a run with a groundout. Frazier collected his league-leading 16th double and added a spectacular catch in center field. Bradley Zimmer drilled a triple in the seventh, his fourth of the year. Ordamar Valdez singled in the eighth for his first Double-A hit.
Notebook
The RubberDucks (30-11) have now won 14 consecutive home games at Canal Park...Starting third baseman Joe Sever fouled a ball off his foot during a second-inning at-bat and left the game at the start of the third inning and was replaced by Valdez....Akron improved to 7-1 against the B-Mets (17-23)...Time of game: 2:25...Attendance: 4,715.

The RubberDucks and Mets will play the third and final game of the series on Sunday afternoon at 2:05. RHP Michael Peoples is the announced starter for Akron, and RHP Casey Delgado is expected to get the ball for the Mets.
