Spokane, WA- The Victoria Royals recorded markers in each period to defeat the Spokane Chiefs 4-1 in a game that they never trailed in on Saturday night.
Royals' forward Tyler Soy registered a pair of goals, including the game-winner in the second period and an empty-net goal in the final stanza, to secure the victory. Victoria received an emotional boost from a Carter Folk fight with the Chiefs' Evan Fiala in the opening frame, before Jared Dmytriw broke the scoreless tie. The Royals' Matthew Phillips registered the insurance goal in the third period. Spokane's lone marker was tallied by Ty Smith.
Victoria netminder Griffen Outhouse turned aside 34 of the 35 shots directed his way. Spokane goaltender Dawson Weatherill stopped 31 of the 34 pucks fired at him.
The Royals could not find the back of the net on the man-advantage as they held a mark of 0/30.0%. The second-ranked Chiefs' powerplay unit was unable to capitalize as they also went 0/30.0%.
Victoria continues their road trip on Tuesday, October 11th as they take on the Medicine Hat Tigers at the Canalta Centre. The Royals will then head to Lethbridge on Wednesday, October 12th to play the Hurricanes. Victoria will conclude their trip on Friday, October 14th vs. the Edmonton Oil Kings at Rogers Place. Puck drop for all three contests are at 6:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST).
