August 23, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Victoria Royals News Release
Victoria, BC - The Victoria Royals are pleased to announce the signing of 2000-born Danish import forward Phillip Schultz to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.
A native of Rodovre, Denmark, Schultz was selected by the Royals with the 38th overall pick in the 2018 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) Import Draft in June.
The 6-0, 194 lb forward spent the majority of the 2017-18 season with the Rodovre Mighty Bulls of the Metal Ligaen, Denmark's top professional league, where he registered 12 points (5g-7a) to go with 53 penalty minutes in 40 games. Schultz also played 10 contests for Rodovre SIK of the Danish Division 1 league, the second tier of professional hockey in Denmark, and earned 17 points (9g-8a) and eight minutes in penalties.
"Phillip is a skilled offensive player who plays with a physical edge and has the ability to be a strong addition to our forward group," President and General Manager Cameron Hope said. "We expect him to have a seamless transition to the WHL after playing professional hockey in Denmark and representing his country at the World Junior Championships."
Schultz gained international experience at the 2018 Under-18 World Championships in the Division 1A Group, where he was Captain for Team Denmark and earned six points (4g-2a) in five contests. He also made six appearances at the 2018 World Junior Championships, as a 17-year-old, and scored a goal.
During the 2016-17 season, Schultz split time between Rodovre SIK, Rodovre Under-20's and Rodovre Under17's where he collected a combined 37 points (23g-14a).
