Royals Send Six Players to NHL Rookie Camps

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Royals today announced that forwards Jack Walker, Tyler Soy and Matthew Phillips as well as defencemen Chaz Reddekopp, Ralph Jarratt, and Joe Hicketts will all attend National Hockey League (NHL) Rookie Camps this week.

Jack Walker

Walker will skate in the Toronto Maple Leafs' 2016 Rookie Tournament in London, ON from September 16th - 18th. Players invited will compete against rookies from the Ottawa Senators, Montreal Canadiens, and Pittsburgh Penguins. The 5-11, 180 lb forward has appeared in 248 contests for the Royals over the past four seasons and has registered 176 points (70g-106a) and 194 penalty minutes over that span. In 36 WHL post-season games, the native of Edina, MN has tallied 27 points (12g-15a) and 40 penalty minutes.

Walker was drafted by the Maple Leafs in the sixth round, 152nd overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Tyler Soy

Soy will skate in the Anaheim Ducks Rookie Camp from September 15th-19th. The Ducks will also play the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks on September 18th and 19th respectively, as part of the 2016 Rookie Showcase. The Cloverdale, BC product has played in 213 WHL games, all for the Royals, and earned 180 points (90g-90a) along with 71 minutes in penalties. Over 38 post-season games, Soy has scored 24 points (12g-12a) and 16 penalty minutes. The 6-0, 171 lb forward was named the recipient of the Brad Hornung Trophy as the WHL's Most Sportmanlike Player for the 2015-16 season.

Soy was drafted by the Ducks in the seventh round, 205th overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Chaz Reddekopp

Reddekopp will attend the Los Angeles Kings Rookie Camp. The camp will run from September 16th to 21st and will include a pair of contests against the Arizona Coyotes on September 20th and 21st at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ.

Over the past three seasons with the Royals, the West Kelowna, BC native has appeared in 183 regular season games and has posted 60 points (10g-50a) to go along with 188 penalty minutes. In 25 career playoff games with Victoria, Reddekopp has notched seven assists and 16 minutes in penalties.

The 6-4, 221 lb defender was drafted by the Kings in the seventh round, 187th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Matthew Phillips

Phillips will take part in the 2016 Young Stars Classic in Penticton, BC from September 15th - 19th with the Calgary Flames. As a member of the Flames, Phillips will take part in a round robin tournament against the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Winnipeg Jets.

The 5-6, 141 lb forward recently completed his rookie season that saw him collect 76 points (37g-39a) through 72 games and be named WHL Rookie of the Year. Phillips also scored five goals and three assists for eight points in 13 playoff contests.

The Flames selected Phillips in the sixth round, 166th overall, in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

Ralph Jarratt

Jarratt will take part in the New Jersey Devils' 2016 Prospects Challenge as an invitee for the club from Thursday, September 15th to Sunday, September 18th. During camp, the Devils will play in games against the Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins.

The 6-2, 217 lb defender has appeared in 118 regular season games in his WHL career and has 16 points (5g-16a) to go with 26 penalty minutes. Jarratt has also played in 21 post-season games with Victoria where he has collected two assists and four minutes in penalties.

Joe Hicketts

Hicketts will compete in the 2016 NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, MI with the Detroit Red Wings. The tournament is held from September 16th-20th and will feature top prospects from the Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues.

The native of Kamloops, B.C. has played in 225 games for Victoria and has recorded 173 points (32g-141a) and 149 minutes in penalties. Hicketts has also collected 15 points (1g-14a) over 31 career post-season contests with the Royals. Last season, Hicketts set the Royals' all-time franchise record for most career points by a defencemen (173) and powerplay assists (70).

Hicketts was signed by the Red Wings as undrafted free agent in September 2014.

Victoria wraps up their pre-season this Saturday against the Vancouver Giants. The game is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start at the Langley Events Centre.

The Royals kick off the 2016-17 regular season with a tilt against the Prince George Cougars on Friday, September 23rd with puck drop set for 7:05 p.m. The club will raise both their WHL Regular Season Championship and BC Division Championship banners earned during the 2015-16 campaign.
