Royals Rally Late to Beat Jackals, 3-2

ELMIRA, N.Y.- The Reading Royals (7-8-1-1) rallied from a pair of one-goal deficits, scoring twice in the final four minutes to defeat the Elmira Jackals (2-10-2-0), 3-2, Friday night at First Arena.
The Jackals were tied or ahead nearly the entire game, taking a 1-0 lead just 6:36 into the first period. Kenton Miller won a faceoff and after a few blocked shots, he fired a shot on goal, which was saved by Mark Dekanich, who kicked the rebound out to the slot. Greg Betzold was there and cashed in with his second goal of the season to put the Jackals up 1-0, with Miller and Tyson Fawcett assisting. Just under 10 minutes later the Royals pulled even as Nick Luukko raced down the left wing, beating the Jackals defense to the net where he tucked one inside the post to tie the game 1-1 at 16:21.
After a scoreless second period the Jackals jumped ahead 2-1 early in the third period, taking their second one-goal lead. Elmira had successfully killed off a Reading power play and Mark Bennett, making his season debut after being activated from injured reserve earlier in the day, sent a pass to Fawcett, who was just leaving the penalty box. He skated into the offensive zone then dropped a pass to Guy Leboeuf, who was trailing the play. Leboeuf stepped into a one-timer, which was blasted past Dekanich to put the Jackals up 2-1 3:35 into the third.
The Jackals held that 2-1 lead until there was 3:15 left in regulation, when Olivier Labelle deflected in a power-play goal off a shot from Michael Boivin for his seventh goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Jesper Pettersson got loose in the slot and beat Jason Kasdorf with a wrist shot, giving the Royals their first lead with 2:18 to play in the game. The Jackals would pull Kasdorf, but come up empty in a 3-2 loss.
