Royals Edge Rockets in Overtime

Kelowna, BC- The Victoria Royals' Eric Florchuk scored the overtime winner to complete the comeback and help the club down the Kelowna Rockets 5-4 on Saturday night.
Both teams took the opportunity to give their younger players some game time as the Royals dressed nine rookies, while the Rockets went with 10. Victoria trailed Kelowna 4-2 mid-way through the third period before Jared Legien and Igor Martynov tallied to send the game to extra time. Martynov scored on a penalty shot, while Legien's marker came on the powerplay. The Royals' other goals were scored by Jared Dmytriw and Spencer Gerth.
Kelowna received markers from Cayde Augustine, Leif Mattson, Kyle Topping and Joshua McNeil.
The Royals started goaltender Dylan Myskiw in net, who turned aside 12 of the 14 pucks fired his way. Rookie netminder Dean McNabb replaced Myskiw mid-way through the second period and stopped eight of the 10 shots directed at him. The Rockets' Brodan Salmond and Roman Basran combined for 26 saves on 31 shots.
Victoria went 1/616.7% on the powerplay, while Kelowna was 2/728.6%.
The Royals scratched 20-year-olds Chaz Reddekopp, Tyler Soy, and Regan Nagy along with veterans Yan Khomenko, Matthew Phillips, Ryan Peckford, Ralph Jarratt, Griffen Outhouse and rookie Brock Gould.
The Royals will conclude their pre-season next weekend when they face the Vancouver Giants and Prince George Cougars as part of the Giants' Pre-Season Tournament. Victoria will take on Vancouver on Saturday, September 9th at 6:00 p.m. and the Cougars on Sunday, September 10th at 12:00 p.m. Both contests are scheduled to take place at the Langley Events Centre.
Victoria kicks off the 2017-18 regular season at home against the Vancouver Giants on Friday, September 22nd.
