Rox Drop Inaugural Opener to Mankato

ST CLOUD-It was a night full of pageantry and excitement, the only thing missing for the Rox and their fans was a victory. The Mankato Moondogs defeated the St. Cloud Rox 5-0 in the Rox inaugural home opener in front of a sellout crowd totaling 2,307 to extend their season-opening winning streak to four games. The Rox fall to 1-3 on the season.

Mankato got on the board first in the top of the second inning. JM Twitchell (UT Arlington) doubled to lead off the inning and scored on third baseman Trey Nielsen's (Utah) triple to break the ice. First baseman Frank Arena's (Seminole State) single scored Nielsen to increase the ‘Dogs lead to 2-0. The MoonDogs would add a single run in each of the fifth, sixth and eighth innings to provide the winning margin.

Hits were few and far between for the Rox as they registered just four total. Three of the hits came from catcher Adam Martin (Western Carolina), who had a pair of doubles and a single to continue the hot start to his season. With the the three hits Martin is now 9-16 on the season to lead the Rox.

Ben Meyer (Minnesota) got the loss for the Rox after throwing five innings of three run, eight hit baseball in his season debut. Mankato's Matt McDaniel (Quincy) got the victory to cap a stellar night on the hill in which he lasted six innings, struck out seven and allowed five baserunners.

The Rox are back in action Sunday night at 6:00 to take on the MoonDogs once again. It's Coborn's Kid's Day with children invited to run the bases after the game. For tickets visit www.stcloudrox.com.
