Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - John Gall did something Sunday night that's only been done twice this year by an Express player, hitting two home runs against Iowa (40-36) at the Dell Diamond to lead Round Rock (34-42) to an 8-4 win.

Iowa's So Taguchi led off the game with a solo home run onto the left field berm, setting a tone early for the I-Cubs that they were unable to build on.

Gall helped even things in the bottom of the second inning when he led off the frame with a single to left field, and later scored on a double by Chris Johnson.

Round Rock broke the game open in the bottom of the third inning, getting a jump start when Tommy Manzella reached on a fielding error by Bobby Scales. After Brian Bogusevic grounded out to first base, Gall ripped a home run to left field on a 2-2 pitch from Iowa starter Greg Reinhard to make it 3-1. Jason Smith kept things going with a triple to right field, and Mark Saccomanno singled to right field to bring Smith home. After Johnson flew out, Lou Santangelo doubled to right-center field to bring home Saccomanno and extend the lead to 5-1.

The Express kept piling on in the fourth inning when Reggie Abercrombie led off with a single through the hole at shortstop. Abercrombie stole second, then moved to third after tagging up on a fly ball by Manzella. Bogusevic walked, and then Gall singled to right field to bring home Abercrombie. Smith grounded into a double play, but it allowed Bogusevic to score to make it 7-1.

After the I-Cubs cut into the lead at 7-3, Gall hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning to push the lead to 8-3.

Iowa added one more run in the eighth, but Round Rock relievers Sammy Gervacio and Geoff Geary held the I-Cubs off to secure Round Rock's second straight win.

Gall finished the game with four hits in four at-bats, including the two home runs, four RBI and three runs. It was the first two-home run game by an Express player since Bogusevic accomplished the feat on June 19 against New Orleans. Abercrombie has the other two-home run game, which came against Iowa on the road on April 18. Gall has seven hits and three home runs in his last eight at-bats.

Saccomanno had a strong game at the plate, as well, with three hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored.

Round Rock starter Mark McLemore (2-3, 4.31) was sharp after surrendering the game-opening home run, allowing three runs on three hits over 5 2/3 innings of work for his second win of the year.

The two teams meet again Monday night at 7:05 p.m. for game three of the four-game series, with Round Rock up two games to one. Right-hander Jeremy Johnson (4-7, 3.69) takes the mound for Round Rock, with right-hander Esmailin Caridad (3-8, 4.14) taking the mound for Iowa.
