Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (18-12) needed just one inning of offense on Sunday afternoon to take care of the Nashville Sounds (7-21) by a final score of 5-1 at Dell Diamond.

In an all-around effort on the mound, four E-Train arms combined to hold the Sounds to just one run on five hits, lowering the team ERA to 3.42 for the season.

Nashville was first to the scoreboard, plating the game's first run in the top half of the second inning. After a one-out triple off the bat of left fielder Sean Halton, right fielder Caleb Gindl worked a walk to put runners on the corners. Express starter Ross Wolf allowed a single to first baseman Hunter Morris that brought Halton across the dish for a 1-0 advantage.

That would be all the Sounds would manage on the afternoon as Nashville went 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The loss was Nashville's eighth consecutive defeat after scoring one run or fewer for the fourth time during the eight-game skid.

After retiring the first two Sounds in the fourth inning, Wolf worked himself into another jam. Gindl singled to reach for the second time on the afternoon. Wolf then issued two consecutive walks to load the bases. Manager Bobby Jones had seen enough, calling on southpaw Richard Bleier out of the bullpen. Bleier delivered, setting down second baseman Blake Davis on strikes for the third and final out to end the inning and scoring threat.

The 3.2 innings was Wolf's shortest outing of the season, going six-plus innings in each of his last two starts.

After consecutive walks to shortstop Jurickson Profar and first baseman Chris McGuiness to start the bottom of the fourth, the E-Train offense was in business. Designated hitter Robinson Chirinos showed patience at the plate, working a third straight walk after starting down in the count, 1-2. With the bases chucked and no outs, left fielder Aaron Cunningham grounded into a double play, but the run scored to knot the game at one apiece. One pitch later, Sounds starter Johnny Hellweg continued to lose command, uncorking a wild pitch that scored McGuiness to give Round Rock a 2-1 lead.

The inning continued for the Express as Hellweg walked third baseman Yangervis Solarte and right fielder Jim Adduci as the offense sparked with two outs. Second baseman Greg Miclat opened the game up two pitches later, lining a 0-1 offering into right-center for a two-run double, his first extra-base hit since April 18 at Oklahoma City. Catcher Eli Whiteside kept the inning alive with a RBI single into centerfield to plate Miclat as the Express hung a five-spot on the board in the fourth inning. The run would close the book on Hellweg's outing as the right-hander was charged with five runs over 3.2 innings of work.

Meanwhile, Bleier proceeded to blank the Sounds for 3.1 innings, allowing just one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

Right-handers Evan Meek and Cory Burns closed out the eighth and ninth innings, respectively, giving the Express its fourth straight win. Tomorrow afternoon, Round Rock will go for the series sweep of Nashville and a fifth consecutive victory.

The Express will conclude the four-game set with the Sounds at Dell Diamond Monday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m. The E-Train will send right-hander Josh Lindblom (4-0, 1.42 ERA) to the bump to be opposed by Sounds starter Tyler Thornburg (0-3, 5.59 ERA). Monday will also feature $1.00 hot dogs and sodas throughout the afternoon. For tickets and more information, visit www.RoundRockExpress.com or call (512) 255-2255.
