Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Due to ongoing drought conditions in Central Texas, and as the result of recent Williamson County disaster declarations, this weekend's postgame fireworks displays at The Dell Diamond have been cancelled. Shows were scheduled for Friday July 1 and Sunday July 3.

In lieu of the annual Independence Day fireworks display, the Round Rock Express, along with sponsors Wells Fargo and Bud Light, will present the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra for an on-field performance following Sunday night's game. In its third season, the 55-piece orchestra will perform a "Salute to America," featuring familiar patriotic-themed musical selections. Joseph Baird will conduct.

"This is a wonderful chance for us to showcase a special part of the Round Rock community in a unique way to our fans," Round Rock Express General Manager George King said. "We obviously regret the decision to cancel the traditional fireworks display as it has become a real highlight of summer life in Central Texas. However, we are excited by this opportunity and confident the Round Rock Symphony Orchestra will deliver a performance sure to evoke just the right patriotic feel."

Baird is the Orchestra Director at Crocket High School in the Austin Independent School District. He also is co-conductor of the Austin Youth Orchestra's Philharmonic Orchestra.

"We are excited about the opportunity to play at The Dell Diamond, especially as a part of Independence Day festivities," Round Rock Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Beverly Mintz said. "We take a hiatus during the summer, but our members who are able to play Sunday night are thrilled by the chance to play. We hope to make the show a memorable one for Express fans."

All fans in attendance will receive hand-held flags for Sunday's game, compliments of Wells Fargo, and Express players will wear special patriotic-themed caps. Fans also will be allowed to run the bases following Friday night's game, thanks to the support of Bud Light.

The Express begin a four-game series against the Nashville Sounds tonight at The Dell Diamond; first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 CDT. The series continues Friday at 7:05 p.m., Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and Sunday at 7:05 p.m.
