Round Rock Express Keep Rolling at Reno 14-1

August 16, 2012 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release

RENO, Nev. - All nine starters hit safely, and Martin Perez carried a shutout into the eighth inning as the Round Rock Express cruised to a 14-1 victory over the Reno Aces in Wednesday night's Pacific Coast League action at Aces Ballpark. The Express (58-67) won their fifth straight game and established a franchise record, scoring nine-plus runs for the fourth straight game. The Aces (71-54) have lost five straight, matching their longest skid of the season.

Brad Snyder's two-run double keyed a four-run second inning. The Express added a three-run third and a two-run fourth. Brad Nelson's two-run homer in the seventh pushed Round Rock's lead to 11-0, and Koyie Hill tacked on an RBI single later in the inning, his first hit with the Express. Hill capped the scoring with a two-run homer in the ninth. The Express are guaranteed at least a split in their sixth straight series.

Meanwhile, Martin Perez (6-6) worked around six hits and five walks over eight innings with four strikeouts for his first win with the Express since June 21 vs. Iowa. It was his first road win since April 27 at Oklahoma City. He did not allow a run until surrendering Konrad Schmidt's two-out solo homer in the eighth. It was the deepest into the game he carried a shutout in his 28 career Triple-A starts. Perez escaped trouble in the fourth, inducing an inning-ending double play with the bases loaded. Fabio Castillo worked around a pair of hits for a scoreless ninth.

Round Rock won for the 15th time in the last 21 games and improved to 17-8 since a five-run, ninth-inning rally July 22 against Omaha. The Express have tallied 47 runs on 67 hits over their last four games, scoring at least 11 runs three times. It was Round Rock's fifth straight game with at least 10 hits and eighth straight game with at least nine hits, during which time Express batters are hitting .346 (107-for-309).

Eight of nine Round Rock starters produced multiple hits. Ironically, the lone exception was Luis Hernandez, who snapped a streak of nine consecutive multiple-hit outings. Nonetheless, Hernandez (1-for-5) pushed his hitting streak to 11 games. Leonys Martin (4-for-6) ended a four-game streak with a homer but extended his hitting streak to 10 games. It was his second career four-hit games, matching his total from the July 22, 2011, game at Omaha.

Nelson's home run was his 21st of the season and 45th in two seasons with the Express. He improved to 38-for-111 (.342) since the All-Star Break, going 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI. Yangervis Solarte (2-for-4) produced his fourth multiple-hit outing over his last six games. Brandon Snyder (2-for-5) extended his hitting streak to seven games with his fourth multiple-hit effort over his last six games; he has hit safely in 10 of 11 games with the Express. Julio Borbon (2-for-5) and Hill (2-for-5) also enjoyed multiple-hit nights.

Round Rock and Reno continue their four-game series Thursday with a 9:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at Aces Ballpark. It will be a battle of left-handed former Big 12 Conference standouts as the Express send former Texas A&M star Zach Jackson (6-12, 4.66 ERA) against former Nebraska star Zach Kroenke (6-3, 5.49 ERA).
