Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (50-54) overcame a late deficit to skirt past the Omaha Storm Chasers (44-58) by a final score of 4-3, snapping a four-game losing streak in the process. The E-Train rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to capture the thrilling come-from-behind win.

Round Rock RHP Jose Leclerc (2-1, 3.38) collected the victory after allowing just one hit while striking out four in two dominant innings of relief. On the losing side, Storm Chasers RHP Kevin McCarthy (2-4, 5.29) surrendered all three late Express runs on a total of three hits in 1.2 innings of work.

Starters LHP Michael Roth and LHP Jonathan Dziedzic shined through the first five innings, combining to allow just six total baserunners. The Storm Chasers managed to load the bases in the fifth, but Roth escaped the jam with no damage done.

It took somewhat of a freak play to score the game's first run. LF Drew Robinson led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a walk before a Carlos Arroyo sacrifice bunt moved his fellow outfielder into scoring position. 1B Brett Nicholas then lined a shot to 1B Balbino Fuenmayor. The scorching ball deflected off Fuenmayor's glove and fell into the waiting arms of 2B Ramon Torres. With Nicholas flying down the base path, Torres threw a wild relay throw well wide of Dziedizc, who had made his way over to cover first base. Meanwhile, Robinson sprinted around third and scored easily as C Parker Morin was forced to retrieve the ball and cover the plate by himself, a task that proved to be impossible.

Omaha wasted no time responding to Round Rock's go-ahead run. In the top of the seventh, DH Jorge Bonifacio singled then CF Bubba Starling walked. A picture perfect sacrifice bunt courtesy of LF Travis Snider moved both runners into scoring position. Morin then delivered with a two-out, two-run single that put his team ahead. The inning continued as SS Orlando Calixte walked before Torres followed up with an RBI single that drove Morin home.

The suddenly back-and-forth affair continued in the eighth as Round Rock regained the lead at 4-3. Robinson kicked off the rally by working a leadoff walk. Arroyo then did his part by knocking a single into center field. In the next at-bat, Nicholas sent a hard-hit ground ball down the right field line for an RBI double, cutting his team's deficit to 3-2 in the process. After McCarthy elected to intentionally walk 3B Kyle Kubitza to load the bases, he unintentionally walked Bernier on four straight pitches to knot the game at three. RF Preston Beck then collected his biggest hit of the season in an Express uniform, a line drive single that worked its way through the infield to score Nicholas and give Round Rock a 4-3 advantage.

Omaha attempted to rally in the top of the ninth as Snider walked before Fuenmayor singled. Morin sacrificed himself to move both runners into scoring position, however back-to-back strikeouts by Leclerc sealed the deal for Round Rock.

The Express and Storm Chasers will continue their four-game set on Wednesday evening. RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez (4-7, 5.00) is set to toe the rubber for the E-Train while the Storm Chasers are planning to send RHP Luke Farrell (3-3, 4.27) to the mound. First pitch at Dell Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
