RoughRiders Cap 2016 as Double-A Attendance Leader

Frisco RoughRiders News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - Minor League Baseball announced final official attendance numbers from the 2016 season on Monday, and the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, finished the season as the top draw among the 30 franchises at the Double-A level. The RoughRiders saw attendance rise in 2016, exceeding 7,000 fans per game, an average of nearly 1,000 more than the next closest Double-A club (Reading Fightin Phils/Eastern League) and over 30% higher than the runner-up in the eight-team Texas League (Tulsa Drillers).

The 2016 season continued the growth established since the RoughRiders were acquired by a group led by General Partner & CEO Chuck Greenberg in August 2014. In the two full seasons under Greenberg's leadership, nine of the 11 largest crowds in the team's 14-year history have visited Dr Pepper Ballpark, including the fourth-largest crowd for a Riders game on Sunday, May 1, 2016 (11,842).

"The re-birth and vibrancy of the franchise has been remarkable," said Greenberg. "We are thrilled that our infusion of passion, combined with the dramatic financial investments in the ballpark made possible by our public/private partnership with the City of Frisco, have resonated with our community and provided a fan experience that is second to none."

The RoughRiders won Ballpark Digest's "Best Renovation" award for the wide array of facility upgrades and improvements to Dr Pepper Ballpark prior to the 2015 season, including a state-of-art HD video board that is the largest in Minor League Baseball, new sound system, Bull Moose Saloon Sports Bar, InTouch Grille season ticket holder hospitality location, Riders Outpost Team Store, and the unique and popular State Fairway Area. In 2016, the RoughRiders dreamed up and constructed the renowned Choctaw Lazy River, the largest water feature in a sports venue in the world. Its opening in June 2016 garnered international acclaim.

Over the past two seasons, the franchise has also introduced an all-new marketing, promotional, and game day experience platform, which was headlined by the introduction of new logos, colors, and uniforms inspired by Teddy Roosevelt's original "Rough Riders." The re-branding prior to the 2015 season produced a fun, fresh look and connected to American and Texas history in a unique, story-telling way. The team has also introduced a nationally-recognized promotional schedule filled with giveaway items, fun theme nights, celebrity appearances, and discount food and beverage nights.
