Roughnecks Solidify Offensive Core

November 27, 2012 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Calgary Roughnecks News Release

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks have re-signed forwards Curtis Dickson, Dane Dobbie and Daryl Veltman to one-year contracts for the 2013 National Lacrosse League season.

"Curtis, Daryl and Dane all play major roles in our offensive unit. Together they accounted for about a third of our scoring last season," said Roughnecks General Manager Mike Board. "Having continuity year-to-year in the offence is important so keeping these three players in the fold is very positive for our team. It means the bulk of our offence, which scored the second-most goals in the league last season, is returning for another run at the Champion's Cup."

Dickson, a native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, recorded 31 goals and 25 assists for 56 points over 16 games last season. The 2011 Rookie of the Year has amassed 108 points (64 goals, 44 assists) over two campaigns in Calgary, including tallying five consecutive hat tricks as well as one four-goal performance in six straight games versus the Edmonton Rush (January 28, 2011 - March 9, 2012).

Dobbie, an Elora, Ontario, native finished the 2012 regular season with 50 points (28 goals, 22 assists) in 13 games. In five seasons in the NLL, Dobbie has recorded 143 goals and 145 assists for 288 points over 65 games with Calgary, setting career highs in assists (42) and points (80) in 2010. He won his first Champion's Cup as a member of the Roughnecks in 2009.

Veltman, a Georgetown, Ontario product, tallied 20 goals and 42 assists for 62 points over 16 games last season. He recorded a nine-point performance (three goals, six assists) in Calgary's 21-10 victory over the Calgary Mammoth on Feb. 24, 2012, matching a personal best set with the Boston Blazers in 2009. Over two seasons with the Roughnecks, Veltman has registered 104 points (33 goals, 71 assists) in 30 games played.

The trio of signings sees the top six point producers from the 2012 squad return for the upcoming season as Jeff Shattler, Shawn Evans and Scott Ranger are also under contract.

The Roughnecks have also signed five 2012 NLL Entry Draft picks to one-year agreements: forward Joe Resetarits (first round, sixth overall), transition Matthew Dinsdale (first round, seventh overall) and defencemen Kyle Dexter (fifth round, 45th overall), Curtis Pridham (sixth round, 50th overall) and Myles Dennett (sixth round, 54th overall). Transitions Barclay Hickey (fifth round, 42nd overall) and Darren Kinnear (sixth round, 46th overall), drafted by Calgary in the 2011, have re-signed one-year contracts.

The Roughnecks open the 2013 regular season at home on Saturday, January 12 when Calgary hosts the Toronto Rock. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Scotiabank Saddledome. For pricing and season ticket information, call customer service at 403-777-4646 or visit www.calgaryroughnecks.com.
