Roughnecks Fall Short in Home

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks opened the 2016 season with a 10-8 loss to the defending champion Saskatchewan Rush on Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Roughnecks built a first half lead of 5-2 with a pair of goals from Dane Dobbie and single tallies from Curtis Dickson, Dan MacRae and rookie Wesley Berg. In the second half, Dobbie added a goal and an assist to finish the game with four points while Dickson scored his second goal of the night. Jeff Shattler, with a goal and an assist, rounded out the scoring for Calgary.

After being held off the scoreboard in the opening 30 minutes, Rush forward Mark Matthews finished the game with a five-point effort (two goals, three assists). Robert Church, with a pair of markers and trio of helpers, also had five points while Zack Greer (2), Chris Corbeil, Riley Loewen, Ben McIntosh and Adrian Sorichetti all recorded goals for the visitors.

Aaron Bold picked up the win, turning aside 37 of 45 shots, while Frankie Scigliano made 37 saves for Calgary.

The Roughnecks next see action Saturday, Jan. 9, when Calgary visits the Buffalo Bandits in a 5:30 p.m. MT faceoff at First Niagara Center.
