Roughnecks Defeat Rock 18-17 In Overtime

Calgary, AB - The Calgary Roughnecks wrapped up the 2016 National Lacrosse League regular season with an 18-17 overtime win against the Toronto Rock on Saturday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

Roughnecks rookie Wesley Berg scored the game winner, his sixth of the night, just over four minutes into the extra frame. Berg added an assist to finish his personal-best goal effort with a seven-point performance.

Calgary also received goals from Jeff Shattler (4), Curtis Dickson (4), Tyler Digby, Peter McFetridge, Garrett McIntosh and Karsen Leung who returned to the lineup following a three-game absence with an upper-body injury. Dan MacRae, rookie Reilly O'Connor and Brandon Goodwin contributed on the attack with four helpers each.

Rob Hellyer led the visiting Rock with a game-high 13 points (seven goals, six assists) as Toronto finished the campaign with a 5-13 record.

Mike Poulin, who received the start for Calgary, and Frankie Scigliano combined for 43 saves in the regular season finale while Nick Rose turned aside 42 of 60 shots he faced for Toronto.

The Roughnecks (8-10), who clinched a playoff spot following Vancouver's loss to Colorado on Friday, will now travel to Denver to face the Mammoth (12-6) in the West Division semifinal on Saturday, May 7 at Pepsi Center (7:00 p.m., TSN GO).
