Roughnecks Capture West Division
Edmonton, AB - In the fifth longest game in National Lacrosse League history, Shawn Evans scored the game-winning goal at the 10-minute mark of overtime to lift the Calgary Roughnecks to a 12-11 win over the Edmonton Rush Saturday evening at Rexall Place. The overtime victory clinches the first seed for the Roughnecks in the West Division, securing a home playoff date for round one and, if Calgary advances, for round two.
Evans led the Roughnecks with a 10-point effort, scoring one goal and setting up nine others to finish the regular season with a league-leading 112 points. The Peterborough, Ontario product recorded 32 goals and 80 assists over 16 games to set a franchise record for most points in a single season, surpassing the previous mark of 104 set by Josh Sanderson (2010) and Lewis Ratcliff (2007).
Daryl Veltman (5g, 3a) and Jeff Shattler (1g, 6a) each had strong performances for Calgary, while Curtis Dickson (2g), Scott Ranger (1g, 1a), Travis Cornwall (1g) and Geoff Snider (1g) also scored in the win.
Zack Greer (1g, 4a) and Ryan Ward (1g, 4a) each posted a five-point night for the Rush, while Alex Turner and Corey Small each scored a pair of goals in the loss. Brett Mydske, Curtis Knight, Jeremy Thompson, Jarrett Davis and Mark Matthews rounded out the scoring for Edmonton.
Calgary goaltender Mike Poulin stopped 42 of the 53 shots he faced to record his ninth win of the season.
