Madison Capitols News Release

MADISON, WI - The Madison Capitols were narrowly edged by the Cedar Rapids Rough Riders, 2-1, at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum on Saturday night.

Madison (8-11-1-1) is ranked seventh in the Eastern Conference with 18 points. Cedar Rapids (3-16-1-1) sits in ninth place in the Eastern Conference with 8 points.

"(Our guys) were moving their feet and they were on their toes instead of sitting back," explained Capitols' Head Coach and General Manager Garrett Suter. "The (defense) was jumping in where they could. We were good all night until the third. Next weekend, we're going to need to bring the same intensity that we had tonight, but be able to score when we have opportunities."

Right wing Robert Arrak netted the game winner with his first goal of the season at 18:41 of the second period. Defenseman Jake Johnson put a shot on goal from the right point. Capitols goaltender Dryden McKay made the initial save. The rebound fell just out of his reach in the slot. The puck was briefly lost in the skates of players in front of the net. Arrak came streaking down the slot and one-timed the puck over McKay for the winning goal.

The RoughRiders found the back of the net as center Zac Robbins scored his fifth goal of the season on a breakaway at 4:24 of the first period. Defenseman Scott Perunovich passed the puck from the left face-off circle in Cedar Rapids zone, off of right wing Jason Polin, and over to a streaking Robbins in the neutral zone. Robbins broke free into the Capitols zone and skated in on McKay all alone. McKay went down to poke-check the puck and Robbins lifted it up and over the netminder's blocker for the goal.

Capitols right wing Easton Brodzinski tied the game at 1-1 with his team-leading 11th goal of the season. Center Eetu Selanne passed the puck up the ice to Brodzinski who was in the center of the RoughRiders zone. Brodzinski controlled the puck and then snapped a wrister past goaltender Zack LaRocque for the tied game at 17:03 of the opening stanza.

McKay (6-4-0-1) suffered his fourth loss of the season stopping 20-of-22 shots. LaRocque (1-5-0-0) earned his first win of the season making 33 saves on 34 shots.

Madison went 0-for-4 on the power play. Cedar Rapids was 0-for-8 with the man advantage.
