Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, Fla.- The Pensacola Ice Flyers, the 2016 Southern Professional Hockey League President's Cup Champions, have re-signed rookie, puck-moving defenseman Anthony Calabrese.

"Anthony adjusted from college to the pro game very quickly when he joined the Ice Flyers," remarked Ice Flyers head coach Kevin Hasselberg. "His ability to move pucks efficiently, generate offense off the rush, and read plays make him a tremendous threat when he is on the ice. We will be looking for Anthony to build on the success he earned in the playoffs."

Calabrese is a native of Bridgeton, N.J., and joined the Ice Flyers late in the 2015-16 regular season after completing his four-year career at NCAA Division III Plattsburgh State. In seven regular season games with the Ice Flyers, Calabrese had two assists, two penalty minutes (PIM), and a +3 plus/minus rating. He also appeared in all seven playoff games scoring one goal and adding five assists, four PIM, and a +8.

"I'm extremely happy to be able to re-sign with the Ice Flyers," said Calabrese. "My time in Pensacola went by quickly but it had a great ending and I can't wait to play in front of the great fans of Pensacola again."

While at Plattsburgh State, Calabrese appeared in 86 career games for the Cardinals and scored seven goals, 40 assists, and 58 penalty minutes. Prior to his collegiate time, he played two seasons of junior hockey including the 2011-12 season with the Wisconsin Wilderness in the Superior International Junior Hockey League, where he was coached by former Ice Flyers coach, Rod Aldoff. In 55 regular season games, Calabrese scored 15 goals, added 44 assists, and had 126 PIM. In the playoffs, he had two goals, 11 assists, and 28 PIM in 15 games.

Calabrese continued, "After speaking with Coach Hasselberg, I'm really looking forward to heading back down to Pensacola, playing for him and developing my game through his leadership as we build towards another championship."
