Rome, GA - The Braves defeated the Fireflies Sunday afternoon 9-7 at State Mutual Stadium before 1,893 fans. Rome saw a 6-0 lead disappear but fought back to pick up the win.
In the second inning, both Tyler Neslony and Jared James scored on an RBI double by Carlos Castro making it a 2-0 game. In the third, the Braves added four more runs highlighted by Austin Riley's two run double, an RBI single by James, and a Castro run scoring triple for the 6-0 score.
Columbia began to chip away with three runs in the sixth making it a 6-3 contest. The Fireflies tied the game in the seventh 6-6 on a sacrifice fly RBI by Tucker Tharp and a two out two run double by Eudor Garcia. Rome staged a two out rally in the bottom of the inning on James' (2) three run homer giving Rome the 9-6 lead. The shot by James was his second in as many games. Columbia scored a run in the ninth but Rome held on for the 9-7 final.
Matt Custred (4-3) earns the win for Rome and Craig Missigman (1-3) gets the loss for Columbia. Devan Watts (5) picks up the save.
