Rogues Unable to Complete Comeback in Game One

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues and the Bend Elks faced off in game one in Medford under a smokey southern Oregon sky. It was a pitching dual until the fourth inning when the Elks opened the scoring with a homerun. Despite closing in on Bend in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Rogues were unable to complete the comeback in the bottom of the ninth and fell 6-5. After scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the ballgame at 2-runs apiece, the Bend Elks plated four more in the late innings, leading the Rogues 6-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning. Billy Fredrick was hit by a pitch, putting him on first base and then was brought in by an RBI single by Nathan Etheridge. Tim Lichty then had an RBI double bringing in Etheridge then Lichty crossed the plate off an RBI double by J.J. Kitaoka. The Rogues were unable to plate anymore runs in the bottom of the ninth, giving game one to the Elks, 6-5. Nathan Etheridge was strong at the plate with two hits in four at-bats, also with one RBI and scoring one run. Catcher Tim Lichty went two-for-four also with one RBI and scoring two runs himself, improving his batting average to .303. Kohl Hostert got the nod for the Rogues and went five innings, giving up eight hits and two runs. He struck out six and did not walk any Elks, improving his ERA to 3.06. Daniel Ferrell, Aaron Schwark and Justin Mulvaney also made appearances on the mound for the Rogues. Medford and Bend face off tomorrow night at Harry and David Field for game two at 6:35pm.
