Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Lynchburg, VA -- The best offense in the Carolina League showed why on Wednesday at Calvin Falwell Field. The Lynchburg Hillcats hit two homers and scored five two-out runs on their way to an 8-3 rout of the Wilmington Blue Rocks. Wilmington's pitching staff has allowed six long balls over the first two contests of this series, losing both games. The setback was the Rocks' ninth straight on the road, their longest such streak of the season.

Bobby Bradley pummeled his third homer of the series and scored two runs, while Taylor Murphy hit a solo shot in the second and added a two-run single in the fifth to lead the Lynchburg charge. The Hillcats got single tallies in the second and third frames and then posted three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.

Zach Lovvorn took the loss, his Carolina League-leading 15th of the season. Wilmington's Opening Night starter yielded five runs on five hits and four free passes in just 3.2 frames. Bubba Henry fared little better, surrendering three runs on four hits in 2.1 frames out of the 'pen.

Wilmington's offense was keyed by two-hit nights from Brandon Downes and Anderson Miller. Downes scored a run and hit his team-leading 32nd double of the season, while Miller drove in a run with an infield knock in the third. Brock Hartson earned his second Advanced-A win by scattering four runs over five frames for Lynchburg.

The Rocks and Hillcats conclude their three-game series on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Wilmington right-hander Corey Ray (7-6, 4.86) takes the ball for the Blue Crew against Lynchburg lefty Thomas Pannone (2-0, 2.49).
