Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release

Myrtle Beach, SC - Extra-base hits by the opposition doomed the Wilmington Blue Rocks (42-46, 7-11) as the Myrtle Beach Pelicans took a Monday night rubber match at Coastal Field, 5-2. A tough night for starter Mario Santiago (7-5) saw the staff ace suffer a loss despite a quality start and injury added to the insult, with a comeback liner connecting with his leg. Kurt Mertins singled, raising his hitting streak to 16 games, while Cody Strait homered for a second time and Brad Correll notched his first RBI. After starting their six-game road trip 2-0, the Blue Rocks dropped three of the last four to settle for a sea level showing at 3-3. Wilmington never had a lead in its Monday night loss.

After a scheduled off day on Tuesday, Wilmington opens a seven-game homestand on Wednesday against the Potomac Nationals at 7:05 p.m. Canadian right-hander Matt Kniginyzky (4-7, 3.90) will face prospect southpaw Ross Detwiler (5-5, 5.87) in the first of three between the Blue Crew and first-half champion P-Nats.
