Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - One night after scoring 11 runs in a win, the Raptors surrendered a dozen in a loss. The 12-3 defeat to Grand Junction dropped the Raptors to a 1-5 start for the third consecutive half of Pioneer League play over the past two seasons.
The Raptors did score first on a Gersel Pitre double that plated Darien Tubbs, whose 3-4 night was one of the few bright spots for a club embarking on a quick two-game road trip to Orem on Saturday. But a Taylor Snyder solo shot in the third tied the game for Grand Junction.
An inning later, the Rockies exploded for seven runs on as many hits, sending 11 men to the plate and chasing Ogden starter Miguel Urena (0-2) from the game. Yohander Quintana (1-1) pitched five innings for the win.
One of the Dodgers first-round picks (#32 overall), Will Smith, went hitless in his first pro game before being replaced at catcher by Garrett Hope in the 8th inning.
Tubbs was playing his final of four straight games donning number #8, a gesture honoring the late brother of Raptors president Dave Baggott. Brian Baggott was a standout defensive back at UCLA in the 1970s. Tubbs will sport #10 the rest of the season.
The visiting Raptors hit first Friday and hope to flush the Owlz out of the barn to begin to recreate a surge resembling last season's two recoveries from poor starts.
