Ogden Raptors News Release
OGDEN - Returning to Ogden for the final two home games of the season, the Raptors (21-12, 40-31) dropped a third-straight game as Grand Junction (11-22, 31-40) hit four home runs and scored 12 runs in the first three innings to spoil Ogden's homecoming, 16-8.
The Rockies collected four hits and four stolen bases in a five-run top of the first inning to start things off. Bobby Stahel hit a first-pitch home run off of Kevin Brown and Grand Junction never looked back. Collin Ferguson hit an RBI double and later scored on a wild pitch that put Jonathon Piron safely on first base despite striking out on a ball in the dirt. Piron stole both second and third bases and scored on Chris Keck's two-run single that chased Brown from the ballgame.
Jordan Paroubeck led off the bottom of the first inning with a double and scored on a Tyler Nevin fielding error. After Scott De Jong singled and Edwin Rios walked to load the bases, Alex Santana grounded out to leave them loaded. Ogden was 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position on Thursday night.
Grand Junction scored four more runs in the second, including a two-run double by Ferguson and a two-run home run by Piron. The Rockies tacked on three more in the third on a three-run home run by Sam Hilliard to take a 12-1 lead.
Ogden joined the home run derby in the bottom of the fourth inning on Deion Ulmer's second of the season - a two-run shot that cut the deficit to single-digits, 12-3.
Hilliard led off the fifth inning with a first-pitch home run off of Misja Harcksen for his second home run of the game.
The Raptors scored two runs in each of the sixth and eighth innings to get within six runs, 13-6, but would get no closer. Grand Junction scored three in the top of the ninth before Rios hit his second home run of the season with a solo shot in the final frame.
Alec Crawford (2-0) earned the victory for Grand Junction while Brown (1-1) took the loss for Ogden. Idaho Falls defeated Orem on Thursday and now has a two-game lead in the division over the Raptors with just five games left.
Gregor Mora (Ogden) and Gavin Glanz (Grand Junction) will start in the Raptors' final home game of the season on Friday night with first pitch scheduled for 7:00pm.
