July 19, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release

Trailing, 1-0, after the top of the first inning, the RockHounds busted loose for five runs in the home half of the first and scored five more times in the second inning for a 10-1 lead. The 'Hounds went on to defeat the Corpus Christi Hooks, 14-2 on Tuesday night at Security Bank Ballpark.

The RockHounds loaded the bases with no outs in the last of the first on a pair of walks (Brett Vertigan and J.P. Sportman) and a single (Beau Taylor). Tyler Marincov then ripped a two-run double into the left field bullpen, scoring Vertigan and Sportman. The play was initially ruled a grand slam home run, but the call was (correctly) changed to a ground rule double, driving in two runs. Matt Chapman followed with the first of his four hits, a laser down the left field line. "Chappy's" double made the score 4-1 and a Yairo Munoz RBI single capped the five-run inning.

Danny Oh led off the second with a four-pitch walk. Vertigan doubled to left-center and Sportman followed with a two-run two-bagger down the left field line, building the lead to 6-1 and chasing Hooks starter Cy Sneed. Taylor greeted reliever Gonzalo Sanudo with an RBI single to center and Marincov single to left putting two men on base. Chapman's second double, a virtual replay of his first-inning line shot down the left field line, made the score 9-1 and Viosergy Rosa lifted a sacrifice fly to center to complete the 'Hounds' second five-run inning.

After surrendering a run in the top of the first, starter Joel Seddon pitched five shutout innings before giving up an unearned run in the seventh. In his last five starts, the right-hander is now 3-2 with a 1.06 earned run average.

The RockHounds used 10 position players, with every one of them scoring a run, driving in a run or both. The 17-hit attack was led by a remarkable start ("unleashing") from the first five batters in the lineup (see "Stat of the Day," below).
