The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-3 on Monday afternoon at Prospera Place.

Calvin Thurkauf opened the scoring potting his 26th of the season 2:16 into the first period. Seattle tied it up but the Rockets regained the lead after Leif Mattson put home his 6th. Seattle managed to rally back and knot the game at 2-2 heading into the second period.

Seattle scored in the second period to take a 3-2 lead into the final stanza.

The Thunderbirds carried the lead for much of the third, but with just under eight minutes to go Calvin Thurkauf scored his second of the night and tied the game up at 3-3. That goal changed everything as 24 seconds later Reid Gardiner put the Rockets ahead with his seventh of the season. Then Carsen Twarysnki ripped home his first goal in a Rockets uniform. Nick Merkley topped it off for the Rockets as they scored four third period goals to propel themselves past the Thunderbirds by a final score of 6-3.

Michael Herringer improved to 24-13-3-0 on the year making 31 of a possible 34 saves.

Kelowna advances to 33-20-4-0 on the season.

The Rockets are back in action on Friday when they host the Spokane Chiefs.
